At my first MW appointment she asked how I was planning to feed bub. I said breast and would only resort to bottle if it failed (like I did with DD). I also said I didn't want to feed bub til my milk came in as that's how my Mum had done it for me and my sisters. She said they wouldn't allow that as bub needs to keep it's blood sugar up and all that. My milk came in on either day 2 or 3 after DD was born and before that she was given formula to quieten her down when she got hysterical, especially at night. Since she was my first I did what the MW's told me to do, which was give formula. Then she was taken to SCU to go under the lights for jaundice and they gave her formula without asking me first, which was the day before my milk came in but even the next day when I was capable of feeding her they did it. Anyway, since that convo I've been questioning my decision to wait. I don't feel comfortable having bub suck when there's no milk (please no colostrum is great for them comments, I know it is but this isn't what this is about). I had a horrible experience with being forced to breastfeed before the milk and it was painful, humiliating and horrendous so I don't want to be pushed to do it again. I just want to know if anyone else has done this and if their bub was affected by not feeding until there was milk. ETA: No breast vs formula debates please. I want opinions from mothers who have done what I want to do only.
